Access Statement


The hotel is set in the heart of Kent and offers 75 bedrooms, with a mixture of doubles, twins or family rooms. We aim to provide the highest standards of service to all our guests and encourage this through our culture and detailed staff training. We look forward to welcoming you to the Inn on the Lake Hotel and making your stay an enjoyable one. We offer the following services and facilities:


  • For assistance prior to arrival please contact the reservations team on 01474 823333.
  • The centre of Gravesend is a 10 minute drive.
  • A bus service is available from outside Cascades Leisure Centre in Thong Lane to the town centre.
  • There is a company who specialises in an accessible taxi service, please see contact information below.
  • Our brochures, menu and tariff are available in larger font on request.
  • You can contact the hotel by phone (switchboard accept type talk calls), email, fax or in person. We are open 24 hours although response, e.g. to emails, may be reduced from 11pm to 7am.
  • We have a list of local equipment hirers and carers available on request.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • All guests should use the main entrance of the hotel located in the front car park. There are no steps from this entrance.
  • The main entrance has an automatic door.
  • There is a drop off area located directly outside the main entrance, this is for dropping off and picking up only, cars must not be left unattended.
  • The car park is on the same level as the entrance. There are 200 spaces, of which 2 are designated for disabled guests, located in close proximity to the doorway to the hotel. Reception is located on the ground floor.
  • If you need assistance with luggage, equipment or guidance, our reception staff are on duty 24 hours, but assistance may be limited between 11pm and 7am, Sundays and public holidays.

Main Entrance & Reception

  • There are no steps in the main lobby area.
  • The front desk is immediately to the right of you when entering the main entrance.
  • There is a limited sitting area in reception/lobby.
  • The reception desk is 120cm high. Registration can be completed whilst sitting in the reception area and we have clipboards available.
  • The registration card can be enlarged if required.
  • Ahead of the main reception desk are the lifts to all bedroom floors.
  • The main restaurant and hotel bar are located to the left of reception.  There are 4 steps on route or at the entrance to the bar or restaurant.
  • The floor surface throughout the reception lobby is marble.

Public Areas – General (Internal)

  • The public telephone is located to the left of reception.
  • All lifts have audible enunciation and tactile buttons at standard height.
  • There are refuge areas located on each floor these are located near the stair well on each floor.

Public Areas – WC

  • There is 1 set of public toilets in the restaurant area and additional toilets in the Lakeside Bar area.
  • There is also a unisex accessible toilet in the Lakeside Bar area.  Access to the Lakeside Room and bar is either via 3 marble steps or assisted access via a side patio gateway.
  • There are future plans in 2017/2018 to build an access ramp from the hotel reception to the Lakeside room. (Please see future plans section below).
  • This toilet provides:
    • Emergency Alarm pull cord
    • 150x160cm free space free of obstacles and doors
    • 98cm transfer space
    • Floor is non slip ceramic tiles
    • There are vertical rails either side of basins and toilets
    • There is a horizontal rail on the side to transfer from the toilet
    • There are lever taps on the sink

Restaurant, Bar & Lounge

  • The nearest toilets to the bar and restaurant below are located in the reception area, details can be seen in the public areas WC section.
  • There is a bar situated on the ground floor near the stairs with either external side door access or via 4 carpeted steps.
  • There are future plans in 2016 to build an access ramp from the hotel reception to the restaurant, bar and lounge. (Please see future plans section below).
  • The bar and restaurant areas are level with carpet flooring.
  • The bar area is served from the front and is situated to the right of the bar area. It has 9 tables at a height of 70cm with 2 chairs per table and 2 low tables with a sofa and 2 low chairs per table.
  • Table service is offered in the bar.
  • Lighting is a mixture of natural day light and LED lights whilst parts of the bar have low level lighting at night, there are areas which are well lit also.
  • Menus are available in large print and staff will automatically take you through the menu and choices for the meal.
  • Lighting during the day is brighter than the evening meal lighting, which is low level.
  • We are able to cater for varying dietary needs, please advise staff on booking.
  • Our main restaurant and breakfast room is situated to the left of reception.
  • This restaurant is accessed either by external side door or by 4 carpeted steps.
  • The restaurant is part buffet and part table service for breakfast and table service only for dinner.
  • Menus are available in large print and staff will automatically take you through the menu and choices for the meal.
  • Lighting during the day is brighter than the evening meal lighting, which is low level, with candles on the tables.
  • We are able to cater for varying dietary needs, please advise staff on booking.


  • There is no laundry service, however an iron and ironing board can be requested from reception.


  • The hotel does not provide a gift shop, however a small selection of gifts and toiletries are on display at reception.

Treatment room/s

  • There are no treatment rooms.

Leisure Facilities

  • There are no leisure facilities.

Outdoor Facilities

  • There are no outdoor facilities.

Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment

  • We have 2 main conference rooms on the ground floor which are either accessed via a side gate on the patio or via 3 marble steps from the lobby.
  • There are future plans in 2017/2018 to build an access ramp from the hotel reception to these conference rooms. (Please see future plans section below).
  • The Lakeside room is reached through a wide archway and The Fountain Room is reached by a glass door which is 90cm wide.
  • Lighting is even but can be dimmed by individual conference organisers.
  • Please notify conference organisers in advance if any additional services are required for conferences e.g. interpreters, palantypist, specific seating or staging, we do try to accommodate everyone’s needs where possible.


  • We do not currently have any specially adapted accessible bedrooms, but we are planning to add these in 2017/2018 (See future plans at the end of this document).
  • Our bedrooms have the following facilities:
    • Twin or double bed combinations available.
    • Emergency procedures clearly written.
    • Television with Teletext and remote control.
    • Flooring in bedrooms is short pile carpet.
    • Room folders available in large print.
    • Lighting levels are controllable and reading lamps are provided.
    • Room service is between Midday and 11pm.
    • Bedding is all non-feather.
    • All room are non-smoking.
    • The furniture is flexible in the room and some items can be moved or removed on request.

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]

  • Our bathrooms are not currently specially adapted, but we are planning to add these in 2016 (See future plans at the end of this document).
  • Our bathrooms have the following facilities:
  • Flooring in bathroom is tiled.
  • All bathrooms have bath with shower attachment.

Self-Catering Kitchen

  • There are no-self catering rooms available

Grounds and Gardens

  • We have lakeside grounds which can be reached via the ground floor Lakeside rooms or via the Lakeside or Fountain Rooms (some access restrictions apply at busy times) either via the side gate or via 3 marble steps.  The Lakeside patio area is level until outside the Fountain Room where there is a paved ramp leading down to the jetty.   There are a number of tables and chairs on the patio (private area during functions) and at the edge of the jetty. The flooring on the entire patio and ramp leading to the jetty is paved.  There is an arbour with 2 low steps constructed from wood and is lit at night.  The jetty is access from the paved ramp with 1 step down to a wooden decked area that is lit at night.  There are ropes on 3 sides of the jetty.
  • There is a three level wooden viewing deck outside the Fountain Room which can be accessed via the Lakeside or Fountain Room (some access restrictions apply at busy times) either via the side gate or via 3 marble steps. The viewing platform has wooden decking and has a ramp through all three levels.

Additional Information

  • If you require any assistance during your stay please contact reception. The Duty Manager can also be contacted via reception.
  • We have a set evacuation procedure. Our alarm sound is continuous ringing bells.
  • All front house staff have regular training which includes disability awareness training.
  • All housekeeping staff have been trained and are aware of procedures to aid privacy in bedrooms.
  • There is good network coverage for mobile phones within the hotel and average coverage from hotel bedrooms. All networks work.

Future Plans

  • We are planning to adapt one of our bedrooms during 2017/18 so that it is totally accessible.
  • There are plans to build two ramps from the hotel reception to the bar, restaurant, toilets and conference and event rooms. These plans are to start in 2017/2018
